The bag-mediated filtration system (BMFS) was developed by Dr. Meschke from the School of Public Health at the University of Washington to facilitate poliovirus (PV) environmental surveillance. The project is funded by PATH (a global nonprofit improving public health). BMFS can be used to collect and concentrate other enteric viruses from wastewater or other water samples. It is designed to filter water samples in the field and elute viruses from the filter without electric pumps.
The kit includes a tripod (6-hook), backpack, rope (1/4″, 25′ long), spray bottle, clipboard, cold chamber, ice packs, hand Sanitizer, pen, permanent marker, bucket, bucket Lid, thermometer, and pH strips.
Scientific Methods Inc. only provides a Tripod (6-hook), a Rope (1/4″, 25′ long), and a 5-gallon bucket with a lid. We can put together a complete kit as requested.
The kit contains a 2” disposable ViroCap filter (see picture), 6-liter bag, bag clamp, tubing, biohazard bags, wipes. And other necessary accessories. 2” disposable can be used with a pump if the power is available. It has been used to concentrate enteric viruses from surface water and coronavirus in wastewater.
This kit is designed to elute viruses from the filter and includes a Bilge hand pump, a custom-made stand to hold filter housing as well as a sample container, tubing (autoclavable), air filter, 150 ml syringe, and C-clamps.
The kit contains a sampling cup with a lid (sterile) and a modified lid. Scientific Methods Inc also can provide a PPE kit (person protection kit) for sampling and elution. The kit includes a large and medium lab coat, 2 face masks, and 8 pairs of large and medium gloves.
